Ed: That marks the end of our game

Scenario

Sheryl Bradshaw, a single woman looking for a suitor on a hit 1970s TV series, chooses charming bachelor Rodney Alcala, unaware that behind the man's kind facade lies a deadly secret. Some of Sheryl's bad experiences as an aspiring actress mirror those of Anna Kendrick. The comment about Sheryl's breasts is "taken literally from something that happened to me when I was 19." Near the end of the film, her name is spelled Cheryl in one of the narrations revealing what happened after the film. In reality, her name is spelled Sheryl, which was correct in the cast list.

Well, Cheryl, it's time to make a decision!

Reported on CTV News at Six Toronto: Episode dated September 8, 2023 (2023). This film does a good job of revealing the ways in which psychopaths often use charm to lure their victims. I appreciate that the film is not a typical horror film or psychological thriller at all. Most of the violent acts in this film are only depicted through the events that preceded (or followed) them, and a lot of the actual violence is depicted indirectly rather than actually shown.

It's like you could literally feel her own fear and discomfort

It keeps things light enough -- and doesn't show enough actual violence -- so that the film remains watchable but at the same time, it is often very disturbing and disturbing. The scene in the parking lot after the taping of The Dating Game perfectly conveyed the same feeling that Anna's character would have felt at that moment. I thought Anna's acting and direction in this film were superb, as was all the acting in general. What I appreciate most about this film are its underlying messages or themes about how women can easily fall prey to the dark side of the male ego and how manipulative some men can be when it comes to women, such as exploiting women's innocence or vulnerability for their own selfish gain.

But anyone hoping for something with more depth will hopefully enjoy it

I also appreciate how it shows that society in general (and especially at the time) actually encourages and often tolerates this kind of treatment towards women, dehumanizing and objectifying them. And as the film shows, even intelligent women are susceptible to the charms of the psychopath, and only society can make them vulnerable. This message was not only conveyed through the behavior and violence of "Rodney", but also through the behavior of some of the other male characters in the film. Anyone hoping for a typical serial killer movie will be disappointed by this.
