Scenario
On an island of rich and poor, teenager John B recruits his three best friends to search for a legendary treasure related to his father's disappearance. Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline and their "OBX"; the stars quiz each other on the best lines from their hit Netflix series. Filmed on location in Charleston, South Carolina; originally scheduled to be filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina. I like this show, but it can be very frustrating to watch at times.
He doesn't look 16 at all
The acting is decent, but as many others have already pointed out, the casting is a bit ridiculous. The lead actor who plays a 16-year-old is almost 30. All of the actors playing teenagers are way too old for the roles they're given, and it ruins the immersion for me somewhat. Is it really that hard to find decent actors who at least look their age for the role they're playing?
But that's hardly the main issue
The story at a high level is good, but the details are where this show falls apart. All the drama and suspense comes from characters doing stupid things. The stupidity ranges from mild to incredibly frequent, but it's always what drives the drama. It's hard to find likable characters when they're constantly doing stupid things and never learning or growing.
And it's not just teenagers who are stupid
None of the cops follow procedure because if they did, the story wouldn't happen. Every time a character does something smart, someone has to ruin it by doing something incredibly stupid because then again, the story wouldn't happen. I wish the writers would spend a little more time trying to come up with different ways to move the story forward, maybe by letting the antagonists be smart instead of having the heroes be stupid. I've now finished season 2, and I don't know.
I don't regret watching it
It's good enough, but it could have been a lot better... No need to waste time scrolling endlessly - here's the full lineup of new movies and TV shows streaming on Netflix this month.
